Philips launches world’s smallest micro audio jukebox and lightest recording audio jukebox

Amsterdam, Aug 28, 2003 - Philips is to introduce the world’s smallest micro audio jukebox, and the world’s lightest recording audio juke box, making to full use of miniaturised storage technology to offer the consumer an immense hard disk capacity in a super compact form. Consumers can enjoy a universe of music on the move to suit any mood with this choice of products.

The hdd060 is the worlds’ smallest micro audio jukebox with an easy-to-use interface making access to music on the move quick and simple. The hdd100, on the other hand, is the world’s lightest recording audio jukebox, enabling the consumer to access thousands of tracks easily, and to make recordings wherever and whenever required.

Both jukeboxes support MP3 as well as WMA playback, consumers can store a complete library of tracks, enabling them to access them easily wherever and whenever required. Users will really have all their music on the go – anytime, anywhere.

Small and light for true portability
At 1.8cm thick, and not much longer than a credit card, the hdd060 micro audio jukebox is the smallest of its type, fitting perfectly in the pocket or around the neck. The hdd100 Recording Audio Jukebox is, at 167g, the lightest of its type.

The large display gives clear, high-contrast light even in bright outdoor conditions, and also has a white LED backlight for use in dark areas like clubs. The LED display has a clear hardened glass lens that makes it scratch resistant, and the full magnesium body makes the jukeboxes small and light yet strong and sturdy.

Simple navigation
Selecting the track to play is very easy. The - Philips SuperScrollTM navigation interface enables fast and precise navigation to the exact music of your choice. The SuperScroll keys used to scroll through tracks have two-step functionality. Pressing either the 'up' or 'down' button for longer activates a scroll accelerator (patent pending) that allows super fast navigation through the list of stored songs. The user can start playing tracks through any category: Playlists, Artists, Albums, Genres, All tracks and Recordings. This makes the Philips jukeboxes versatile and a versatile music companion.

Users can use the PC software to change the equalizer settings and even rename the presets from Rock, Pop, Jazz and Classic to suit their own listening preferences. The user can link these new equalizer settings to be activated with specific genre types like 'rock', 'hip-hop', 'classical' or 'dance'. These changes will of course be transferred to the jukeboxes at the next PC connection.

Best choice of storage options
Philips has designed the two audio jukebox devices to offer consumers different storage solutions for different needs. To offer a great combination of size and convenient portable storage, the hdd060 features a capacity of 1.5GB, enabling up to 375 MP3 tracks or up to 600 WMA tracks to be stored on it. PC connection is via a USB 1.1 cable.

For consumers looking for greater storage capacity, the larger hdd100 features a 15GB hard disk, enabling up to 3000 MP3 songs or 6000 WMA tracks to be stored on it. The hdd100 also features a superfast USB2.0 connection, allowing rapid transfer of music and other files from a PC. Indeed, both players can also be used as external hard disk devices, using their respective USB connections to transfer pictures, documents and all sorts of data for storage or backup.

The hdd100 can handle different audio sources and record onto its hard disk. This feature makes it much more than just an audio jukebox: the hdd100 has its own internal MP3 encoder, allowing it to record audio tracks from its microphone input, analogue line input and digital-optical line input. It can be used as everything from a voice recorder with extremely long recording times, to a high-quality portable digital audio recorder for live session music recording and DJ dance track mixing. In between, it allows any type of user to enjoy audio tracks from virtually any source imaginable.

The hdd100 is now available in Europe at a price of Euro 499, the hdd060 will be available from October onwards in Europe at a price of Euro 349.
