October 20, 2005 Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Oct 20, 2005 - With an 8000-square meter booth occupying the entire Berlin Messe Hall 22, Philips commanded attention this year at the 2005 Internationale Funkaustellung (IFA) by exhibiting ‘easy to experience,’ ‘designed around you’ and ‘advanced’ experiences – the pillars of the Philips Sense and Simplicity philosophy.
“This is more than a slogan that sums up what the brand delivers,” said CEO Rudy Provoost during the tradeshow press conference. “It reflects the way we run our business, and it’s at the heart of everything we do: in healthcare, lifestyle and technology. And of course, consumer electronics is at the heart of our lifestyle proposition.”
Originating in Germany in 1924, IFA is the world’s largest consumer electronics tradeshow, representing 37 countries from Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America. During the tradeshow, the 2006 FIFA World Cup™-themed Philips booth featured the next leap forward in television technology – High-Definition TV (HDTV).
The 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ promises to be an important milestone in the launch of HDTV, as it will be the first ever FIFA World Cup™ broadcast entirely in HD. As part of the IFA experience, Philips, an Official Partner of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™, provided a glimpse into the future of television viewing with the HD Theatre, where visitors could experience the power of high definition television when viewed with Philips technology. To lead the effort in making next year’sthe FIFA World Cup™ an HD event, Philips is offering an expanded range of plasma and LCD HD, Ambilight FlatTV displays.
Additionally, Philips showcased its Showline Media Center MCP9350i – to be introduced in selected countries in Europe in November. It provides a complete platform for the maximum enjoyment of digital multimedia home entertainment, offering the very best of converged digital technology, including high definition, high quality video and audio playback, the convenience of wireless connectivity and the power of the latest platform technologies from Intel®.
